💗Knowing sports vocabulary in English is not superficial, as one may sometimes think. The sports topic is very recurrent when carrying out a conversation with someone to whom you have just been introduced. It is a way to gain the trust of your interlocutor and, at the same time, appear pleasant by making yourself knowledgeable in a favorite area of ​​many people.

💗Conocer el vocabulario de deporte en inglés no es una superficialidad, como a veces se pueda pensar. El tema deportivo es muy recurrente cuando se lleva a cabo una conversación con alguien a quien te acaban de presentar. Es una forma de ganarte la confianza de tu interlocutor y, al mismo tiempo, mostrarte agradable al hacerte conocedor de un área favorita de mucha gente.

Football/Soccer: football.

Tennis: tennis.

Basketball: basketball.

Golf: golf.

Athletics: athletics.

Baseball: baseball.

Ski: skies.

Motorsports: motorcycling

Boxing – boxeo

Hiking – senderismo 

Skiing – esquiar

Skating – patinar

Jogging – correr (footing; que es una palabra que parece inglésa pero que en realidad, ¡no existe en inglés!)

Snowboarding – snowboard o snow

Cycling – ciclismo

Kitesurfing – kitesurf

Surfing – surfear

Fencing – esgrima

• Para hablar de un deporte en una frase en inglés, se usa el verbo play. En algunas ocasiones, se puede usar do y go.

• Play: se usa cuando queremos explicar que jugamos a algún deporte. Por ejemplo, jugar al fútbol sería: play football. Generalmente hacen referencia a juegos competitivos, ya que juegas para ganar.

• Go: se usa más en deportes individuales y se acompaña de la terminación –ing. Por ejemplo: go running (ir a correr).
